The Makaton Workshop Level 1 is the starting point for learning Makaton. It is recommended for parents/carers who use Makaton with their family at home, as well as for staff in educational, health, care and leisure settings who interact with children and adults who use Makaton to help them communicate.

 

It provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme and covers commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use, as well as how to start using Makaton in everyday situations.

 

On the workshop, you will learn the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2 of the Core Vocabulary and part of the Additional Stage.

 

You will receive a Participant's Manual which includes the presentation materials as well as all the signs and symbols for the vocabulary covered in the workshop.

 

You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance. The Certificate of Attendance has no expiry date which means there is no requirement to repeat the Makaton Workshop Level 1 in the future. You will need to keep the certificate if you wish to further Makaton training such as Level 2.  It is also personal to you so can be used to demonstrate your attendance at a Makaton Workshop Level 1 in future.
