Who is Makaton for?

Although Makaton is particularly useful for children and adults with learning and communication difficulties, it is also used by other groups.

Many mainstream schools and EY settings have seen the benefits of using Makaton to support all children to develop communication, language and literacy skills.  It also supports integration, as children with and without language difficulties can communicate with each other, learn and play together more easily.

People whose first language is not English, those who have lost speech because of an injury or illness and those with memory problems may also benefit from using Makaton.

I can help you to take the first step to learning Makaton. Getting started with Makaton is fun and easy, and once you've started, you'll soon want to learn more. I look forward to welcoming you to the Makaton family soon.
